Testimony on Silent Genocide

This is a call for support to help complete and publish the autobiographical account of Kalbinur Sidik, a Uyghur woman who escaped Chinese concentration camps and now advocates for her people.

Kalbinur’s Story
For the last three years, a team of dedicated, international volunteers have been writing an autobiographical account of Kalbinur Sidik (Qalbinur Sedik), a brave Uyghur woman who was forced to teach Mandarin at Chinese concentration camps in East Turkestan. Against insurmountable odds, she managed to escape and reach the Netherlands.

The Importance of Her Testimony
Kalbinur’s account is a crucial testimony in the ongoing Uyghur genocide. She has already established herself as an important voice in Uyghur advocacy and has given testimony to the U.S. Congress and touring Western parliaments to seek recognition of the genocide against her people. This book adds multiple new dimensions to her story, beginning just before the Cultural Revolution in China, she details the decades of racism and abuse that the Uyghur community faced preceding the ongoing genocide.

Your Support Matters
Your donation will help preserve her testimony in book form, amplifying the Uyghur voice in their urgent call to end the genocide and occupation of their land by the Chinese regime.

Our Efforts
Our work has included hundreds of hours of interviews with Kalbinur and her translator(s) to get down all the details of what she saw and experienced. A team of translators also translated her personal diary from Uyghur to English. We even had an artist volunteer his time to produce artwork for the book. We’ve done this all as the Ummah Project team; a team of Muslim activists who have come together in order to use our skills for the benefit of the ummah. For us, this book is more than just a project; it’s a way to support our Uyghur brothers and sisters, whose suffering we have witnessed from afar. When confronted with the brutality faced by the Uyghurs, we felt paralysed by the sheer scale and horror of the situation. This book is our attempt to break out of that paralysis and use our skills and resources to amplify Kalbinur’s voice and sharing her story, to raise awareness about the Uyghur genocide and inspire others to join the fight for justice.

Our Mission
This project aligns with our commitment to narrate our own stories and shape the narrative about us as Muslims. Through direct action and impactful projects, we aim to inspire resilience and uphold and defend universal human dignity.

We Need Your Help
With the help of Allah and the countless hours our dedicated volunteers have put in, we’re almost at the finish line. The book is being written, and this is where we need your help. Due to the urgency, we need to free up our writer and editors to work on it full-time to complete the manuscript in the next three months. Once it’s finished, we will approach several publishers who have shown interest. At least €20’000.— are needed.

How the Funds Will Be Used

The money raised will be used for:

  1. Freeing up time for writer and editor full-time to complete the rest of the book
  2. Paying a translator to translate notes and video from Uyghur to English
  3. Pay translators to publish the book in several languages (Dutch, German, French, Turkish)
  4. Organise book tours
  5. Organise literary festival strategy and tours

Our accountant is budgeting carefully and tracks all the spending to ensure the best use of your donations. But if there is any surplus money, it will be used for other initiatives Ummah Project has planned.
